BJC and Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM) went through a very rigorous review process to select an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system, and Epic most closely aligned with our specifications. The selection process began in January 2014 and brought together providers, clinicians, administrators and staff from hospitals, Washington University School of Medicine and BJC Medical Group to work toward choosing one electronic health record. More than 500 individuals participated, with many more detailing their needs and preferences through a survey.
In the end, the answer was clear: Epic’s patient-centered focus will provide the best functionality for delivering world-class care and service to our patients and their families. The fully integrated functionality of Epic will enable a single medical record to follow a patient throughout our health care community, allowing medical providers the ability to see patient records across all functions.
Due to the sheer size of the project, it took the program team roughly 12 months to arrive at their decision. To read more about the path to choosing Epic, click here.
